FÍS TV Summit – 'Challenges Present Opportunities'
10 Oct 2017 :
IFTN caught up with the programmer of the FÍS TV Summit, Mary Deely of the Galway Film Centre, to found out about the Summit, and what attendees can expect during the event, which takes place on Thursday 12th October.

“We see the day as a snapshot of where television is now, and where it’s all going. Everything is changing... the channels have new heads, they have exciting ideas, they’re facing lots of challenges. And for the producers on the ground – the way audiences are consuming content - that is completely changing.

“But challenges present opportunities, so it’s an exciting time to be in television. We want to capture that during the day.” “People attending the event are an interesting mix of indie producers, broadcasters, and people with a firm eye with what’s coming down the line. The established production companies for whom television is their bread and butter – they’ve been doing it for years.

"It’s great to see that there is an audience for the event not just from Galway but from all over Ireland, from Dublin, the western region – these types of seminars are great for everyone to meet up.”

“Also of interest is the ‘The Western Region Audiovisual Producers’ Fund which is being officially launched on Thursday afternoon by Minister Seán Kyne, Minister for Rural Development and Community. It’s an initiative of the Galway Film Centre and the Western Development Commission, with the support of eight local authorities – for all of the western region counties. It’s a really exciting initiative for producers who work in that region or who want to work in that region.”

The FÍS TV Summit takes place on Thursday 12th October at the Galway Bay Hotel. The full schedule for the day is published on IFTN HERE, and further details are available at www.galwayfilmcentre.ie.

Tickets for the day are €65, and available on Eventbrite. Follow the day’s events here - #FÍSTVsummit
