The 2017 festival kicks off August 11th in Swords Castle, Co. Dublin with a new format which now includes live music, comedy and film.
In addition to the line-up of screenings and performances is a strong slate of workshops, featuring professionals from Brown Bag Films, Screen Scene Post Production, Ardmore Sound Studios and Louise Kiely Casting.
Kids Animation Workshop – Supported By Brown Bag Films
11:00-12:00, Friday August 11th
This workshop is suitable for children aged 7–12 and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
2D Artist Darren Murray from Brown Bag Films will tutor this introduction to animation and how it’s made, including drawing and design techniques for cartoons and animation. Children will learn how to break down and design from a script or story, including their own if they have one. Each child will receive one-to-one feedback.
Murray has worked on ‘Doc Mcstuffins’, ‘Octonauts’ and ‘Stinky and Dirty’.
Adults Acting & Casting Workshops

Eva Jane Gaffney, and Actor and Casting Assistant from Louise Kiely Casting will tutor both the adult and children’s workshops. She has worked on ‘A Date for Mad Mary’, ‘Handsome Devil’, ‘Sing Street’ and many more.
In this workshop Eva-Jane Gaffney of Louise Kiely Casting explains and demonstrates how you can significantly increase your chances of making a lasting impression. We will cover different aspects of screen acting with a focus on audition preparation and the audition itself. Attendees will get a scene to learn in advance so we can do some practical work and watch the clips back at the end of the session. The workshop is particularly suitable for those returning to, or starting a career in the competitive world of acting.
Children Acting & Casting Workshops
11:00-14:00, Saturday August 13th
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
In this fun filled workshop Eva-Jane Gaffney of Louise Kiely Casting will teach young people how to prepare for an audition. We will play some games specific to screen acting and do lots of practical work to get the imagination going! Attendees will get a short scene to learn in advance so we can do some practical work. The workshop is suitable for any young person who is interested in acting.
Foley Design Workshop
11:00-14:00, Saturday August 12th 2017 (Registration at 10:30)
Jean Mcgrath & Caoimhe Doyle from Ardmore Sound Studios & Screen Scene Post production tutor this workshop, which focuses on Foley Design; the creation of custom made sound effects for film, television and games.
They are both award-winning and Emmy-nominated Foley Artists, whose credits include ‘The Hobbit’, ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘Game of Thrones’.
Attendee (14 years+) will recreate an entire soundtrack of original sound effects for a sequence of film using a variety of props ranging from celery to obscure percussive instruments. The workshop will be followed by a screening of the finished piece.
