TG4 Announce Live Show For Its 20th Birthday
28 Oct 2016 : Nathan Griffin
The live event marking the 20th anniversary of TG4’s creation will take place on Halloween night.

The ‘TG4XX Beo’ performance will consist of thirty specially created characters, created by Billy Mag Fhloinn, taking centre stage for the evening of festivities.

The event is set to take place in a number of Gaeltacht venues across the West of Ireland. This includes the pavilion at the NUIG Quad in Galway City, the home of TG4 in Baile na hAbhann in the Connemara Gaeltacht as well as two satellite units, one at the western tip of the Dingle Peninsula in west Kerry Gaeltacht at the legendary Páidí Ó Sé pub and the second in Donegal at Ionad Cois Locha, Gweedore.

Honorary guest of the night, Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins, will be at the Quad in NUIG. President Higgins will give a live address during the programme.

His presence is of particular significance, given that one of his most praised achievements as Arts Minister in the 1990s was the establishment of Teilifís na Gaeilge, now TG4.

The Live show will feature many performances and arrangements over the two hour broadcast including: HotHouse Flowers, Máirtín O’Connor and the Big Band, Prodijig, Duke Special & Ulaid, Imlé with Maitiú Ó Casaide, Nell Ní Chróinín & Séamus Ó Beaglaoích, Aeons agus Muireann Nic Amhlaobh & Seamus Barra Ó Súilleabháin, Pólca 4, Kormac & Daithi, Liam Ó Maonlaí and a specially curated performance with choirs from various Gaeltacht communities plus many more.

The week of the 20th Anniversary will also see a packed TG4 TV schedule with a full bill of new episodes to debut November 5th – 11th. This includes 'Ros na Rún,' ‘Hup’ produced by Red Shoe Productions, ‘Róisín,’ ‘Fir Bolg,’ ‘Hector Central,’ ‘Follow the Money,’ ‘Tithe Cois Farraige.’
