Production on a third season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is set to get underway this July in Northern Ireland with the HBO series now seeking extras to join the cast

As previously reported on IFTN, season three of the hugely popular 10-part series was greenlit last month to go ahead in Northern Ireland following record ratings for season two.

The series will once again return to Paint Hall Studios in Belfast where seasons one and two were filmed. The show will also use two new purpose-built 44,000 square-feet sound stages in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter as well as the Linen Mill Film Studios in Banbridge, Co Down.

Thousands of extras are currently being sought to take part in the production this summer with Extras NI currently handling extras casting. There will be no open casting auditions held.

Extras NI are looking for all types of men, particularly those of a fit body build and those with special skills such as archery, combat-skills, military experience and sailors. They also require farmers, butchers, carpenters, iron workers, blacksmiths, weavers, medieval musicians. They are also looking for women with long natural undyed hair.

The epic fantasy series has received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen fund supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

It has been speculated season three will focus on half of ‘A Storm of Swords’, the third book in a series by George R.R. Martin.

Season two of the series is currently being broadcast by Sky Atlantic with the season premiere pulling in more than 8.3 million viewers.

The series sees Irish actor Aiden Gillen (Love/Hate) reprise his role as Petyr Baelish, while Liam Cunningham (The Guard) has joined the cast as Ser Davos Seaworth.
