TG4 launches its Autumn Schedule

The upcoming season for TG4 features a range of music, sport, documentary and film content as it also prepares to celebrate its 20th year.

Highlights of the upcoming schedule include new four-part Irish language comedy ‘Fir Bolg’, written by Brian Reddin, described at the launch as ‘Spinal Tap’ with a bodhrán.

The cast is led by Sean McGinley and includes an impressive line-up of cameo roles from the likes of Daniel O’Donnell, Amy Huberman and Brendan Grace. The series sees a 1970s Irish trad group attempt to make a come-back following the death of their frontman.

Also on the musical front, ‘Hup’ from Red Shoe Productions sees high-energy live performances from some of the biggest names in performance and musical collaboration with unexpected partners.

‘Opry an Lúir’ presented by Daniel O’Donnell and Lynette Fay returns for a new season, also recorded in front of a live audience. The new series will see Ireland’s top country stars duet with some well-known traditional singers.

‘Junior Eurovision’ presented by Eoghan Mc Dermott will see Ireland’s young people try to redeem Ireland’s reputation in the adult category over the last number of years, as the top 32 singers battle it out for the chance to represent us in Malta. The series will be judged by Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh, Sandie Jones, Dustin and Jedward.

Hector Ó hEochagáin also returns to TG4 in ‘Hector Central’, which sees the redhead Navan native take on Central America. Weekly arts and culture show ‘Imeall’ presented by Tristan Rosenstock and Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh also features.

The factual line-up celebrates Cork-born humanitarian Mary Elmes and the story of ex-Christian Brother John Philip Holland. A new season of top-class international documentaries are also to be expected with ‘Fíorsceal’. A number of the new season’s programmes report on the extensive profiteering taking place in the refugee/humanitarian aid sectors.

In sport ‘Laochra Gael’ will chronicle the careers of top Gaelic Games legends including Seánie McMahon and Clíodhna O'Connor. ‘GAA Beo’ will also show exclusive, live, free-to-view coverage of the All-Ireland  Minor and Under-21 Finals, the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Gaelic Football Finals from Croke Park on Sept 25th, county finals, the AIB Club Provincial Championships and the Allianz National Leagues. Further sports-related content includes ‘Rugbai Beo’, ‘Je Mo Peil’.

For younger audiences, ‘Cúla4 na nÓg’ zone provides a daily early-morning entertainment package for the pre-school age group. It offers brand-new Irish versions of famous animated series, introducing ‘Masha and the Bear’, ‘Wussywat’, ‘Astroblast’ plus regular established favourites ‘Dora the Explorer’, ‘Pocoyo’, ‘Dinosaur Train’ and others. 

Additional programmes include ‘Roisín’, ‘Comhrá’, ‘Crá sa Chré’, ‘Na Bailéid’ and ‘Madraí na hÉireann.’

TG4 content is available to view anywhere any time with Apps on most of the Smart TV sets now on the market from the major manufacturers, a browser-based Player on tg4.tv, a TG4 Player App for iPad and the launch of an updated Website www.tg4.ie and a TG4 Player App for iPad.
