Irish co-production ‘Mammal’ continues its’ success at this year’s Sundance Film Festival by being one of only five titles to be picked up by the Sundance Channel.

The film will now premiere exclusively on Sundance Channel Global, shortly after the festival this year.

With sales being handled by Berlin-based sales agents Picture Tree, ‘Mammal’ has already sold in Central and Eastern Europe, Iberia, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa.

The film, which is in the World Dramatic Competition category of Sundance, has received critical praise since premiering at the festival. Reviewing the film, US screen bible Screen International said: “The raw vulnerability of their performances creates a rock solid centre to this delicately handled immersion in love and grief.” The review goes on to praise the film for its’ “sensitively judged” direction and the “totally committed performances from Rachel Griffiths and Barry Keoghan.”

‘Mammal’, directed by Rebecca Daly (and written by Daly and Glenn Montgomery), centres on a woman who has lost her son and develops an unorthodox relationship with a homeless youth. Their tentative trust is threatened by his involvement with a violent gang and the escalation of her ex-husband's grieving rage.

The film stars Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actress Rachel Griffiths (‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Muriel’s Wedding’) as well as Barry Keoghan (‘Love/Hate, ‘71’), Michael McElhatton (‘Game of Thrones’) and Johnny Ward (‘Love/Hate’).

‘Mammal’ was produced by Macdara Kelleher and Conor Barry for Fastnet Films (‘Strangerland’, ‘Kisses’, ‘What If’) and was funded by the Irish Film Board (IFB), Luxembourg Film Fund, BAI, TV3 and the Netherlands Film Fund.

The film will be released to Irish cinemas sometime in 2016, being distributed by Wildcard.
