About the Role:

This is an exciting role in the Broadcast Technical Team at Virgin Media Television. The Broadcast Technical Team is one of the four core technical disciplines within VMTV.  The Broadcast IT Support will provide assistance to the technical operations team to ensure smooth delivery of IT Broadcast related systems!

Due to the nature of Television, this role involves irregular hours and weekend work. 

Specific Duties & Tasks:

  • Work closely with the Broadcast IT Lead to execute the strategic priorities within the Broadcast IT function and work with the other technical and operational leads to ensure the smooth delivery of Broadcast IT related systems
  • Liaise with the Technical, Production teams and Operations colleagues on all broadcast IT systems
  • Participate in, and lead where appropriate, projects to investigate and deliver alternative ways of working.
  • Provide assistance to the technical/operations team as required
  • Implement workflow design documentation procedures, ensuring that the Broadcast IT operational and technical workflows and work practices are fully documented
  • Identify preventative maintenance schedules for approval by Broadcast IT Lead
  • Become fully acquainted with emergency and disaster recovery procedures in place at Virgin Media Television, both currently and in the future, to ensure safe operation and rapid deployment of alternative services to maintain programme output, should the need arise
  • Support the development of the Broadcast IT capability to ensure operational competence across all shift patterns
  • Liaise with 3rd party contractors to ensure successful delivery of Broadcast IT related projects, and ensure the procurement procedures are followed
  • The above list is not exhaustive. You will be expected to perform duties as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of the Company, as directed

Skills & Expertise:

  • Must possess a high degree of technical proficiency in Broadcast IT systems etc. including but not limited to knowledge of the following systems:, Microsoft, Linux, Networking administration and protocols, VMware, Cisco, Transcoding, Streaming, Storage, Cloud computing, post-production workflows and broadcast technology.
  • Knowledge of television production processes including file based technologies
  • Good disposition to keep calm under pressure and the ability to plan a recovery
  • Documentation skills and ease with sharing knowledge
  • An understanding of Health and Safety in a technical operational environment
