Brown Bag Films are hiring a Software Developer for our Innovation and Projects department. The Software Developer’s responsibilities will vary dependent on the project but will be mainly responsible for the development of software applications that will be scoped by the project’s supervisor. Although the responsibilities are primarily technical, the Software Developer will also interface between the pipeline department and production teams. The role requires a person who can take initiative and work beyond the scope of the assigned task at hand.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with department Lead to ensure that implementations are consistent with overall department strategy.
- Maintain and extend the current BBF tools repository.
- Development of new technology to support the productions in Brown Bag Films.
- Conduct efficiency studies of workflows in current tools and work towards improving it.
- Documenting APIs, user guides and internal policies and procedures.
- Design and implementation of graphical user interfaces.
- Integrate software with existing systems.
- Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, and automation.
- Work with Technical Directors and Technology Leads to understand the needs of the Studio.
- Any other relevant tasks deemed appropriate by your manager or directors of the company.
Key Requirements
- At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial software development environment.
- Degree in Computer Science.
- Extensive development experience in Python, JavaScript and C++ or C#.
- Excellent understanding of databases and asset management.
- Must have experience working on MS Windows and Linux.
- Good understanding of Computer Science principles (preprocessing, compiling, linking, profiling, etc).
- Excellent ability to learn, adapt and deliver.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be familiar with object-oriented programming.
- An understanding of CG technologies and production practices.
- Solid understanding of current web development technologies.
- Experience in test driven development environments.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with AngularJS.
- Tool development for Maya, Houdini, and Nuke, Photoshop.
- Experience with DVCS.
- Experience with TDD.
- Experience with game engine technology.
- Experience with Shotgun Toolkit.
- Knowledge of Vray and Arnold.
