Virgin Media News requires an experienced journalist to lead our courts coverage. As this is a key on-air position the successful candidate will have at least five years’ experience in broadcast journalism along with previous experience of court reporting and in-depth knowledge of defamation laws and court reporting rules and regulations. They must demonstrate the ability to deliver news in an authoritative and credible manner to tight deadlines.
Main tasks of the role:
- Deliver court stories that are factually accurate and legally watertight
- Be an authority for the coverage of courts and legal proceedings in Ireland
- Be fully engaged with the legal agenda of the day
- Support the news gathering operation by sourcing follow-up stories
- Bring forward ideas for future news coverage
- Be a brand ambassador for Virgin Media News and its values
- Be a role model for other journalists and production staff within the organisation
About the person:
The ideal candidate must have:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in journalism at a senior level
- Credible and established on-air experience in live broadcasting
- Knowledge of up to date developments in defamation law and Court Reporting
- First class broadcast reporting skills
- A good news sense and eye for a story
- A comprehensive contacts book and network
- Be proficient in shorthand
- A strong track record of achievement
- Knowledge of self-editing software systems
- Proven experience in dealing with breaking news stories
- Extensive experience in broadcast reporting and production
- An authoritative and engaging on-air presence
- A comprehensive contacts book and network
- A thorough knowledge of all legal issues around news broadcasting
- Understanding of – and engagement with – digital news platforms
- A robust work ethic that understands the need for flexibility
- Strong interpersonal skills
