NEP Ireland, part of the NEP Worldwide Network, is the premier provider of mobile television units in Ireland and the UK.  We currently have an opening for a Trainee Satellite Technician. This is an exciting and key technical role working on a range of NEP projects. The successful candidate will be trained in all aspects of satellite broadcasting, including the use, maintenance and repair of the technical equipment used in the day to day running of the satellite broadcast operation. The position would be ideal for someone looking to start a career in satellite broadcasting.

This position, which is full time and permanent, will include travel both domestic and international and will require weekend and evening work.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and develop your skills in satellite broadcasting.
  • Assist the Senior Satellite Engineer in the delivery of live outside broadcasts, working both at our bases in Kilcoole, Co Wicklow and at Mount St Upper, Dublin and onsite at various locations, domestically and internationally.
  • Assist in following up faults and the maintenance of our equipment.
  • Develop skills to help in first-line fault-finding and repair of a range of broadcast and satellite equipment; minimising loss of service at times of equipment failure by rapidly identifying and implementing temporary workarounds.
  • Learn how to interpret and implement instructions and requests from clients, producers, directors and other colleagues.
  • Strive to learn the operation of the NEP Ireland fleet and team, with the aim of progressing to a Satellite Engineer.

Other Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with new and existing customer processes and policies.
  • Health & Safety – wear appropriate PPE and have an awareness of H&S whilst on location and base adhering to best practices.
  • Understand and comply with new and existing customer processes and policies.
  • Work with colleagues towards a common goal; thank and encourage staff as appropriate, foster a One Team mentality both on-site and at base.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Third level course (or equivalent) in a relevant electronics/telecommunications discipline
  • While previous experience working in outside broadcast facilities would be beneficial it is not a requirement.
  • Awareness of the building blocks of a basic outside broadcast solution.
  • Knowledge and experience of IP systems would be an advantage.
  • Good fault-finding skills (desirable).
  • An awareness of Health & Safety.
  • Developing communication and client facing skills.
  • Good time management skills and ability to work to very tight deadlines.
  • Logical thought processes; ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to use initiative; meticulous attention to detail; pro-active and self-motivated.
  • Flexible attitude.
  • Must be willing to travel internationally.
  • Full clean Irish driving licence. (A HGV licence would be an advantage but is not a requirement)
