Job Title: Newsdesk/Digital Journalist
Reporting to: Executive Producer

About the role:

We are looking to recruit a multi-skilled journalist to help develop 3News’ digital output on the TV3 website and across our social media platforms. This position also involves key newsdesk duties, such as managing the intake of copy and content and deploying journalist and camera resources. The successful candidate will work across the newsroom’s Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram feeds and having direct input into the daily newsgathering process. This role will suit somebody with keen interest in news and the future development of online platforms in the digital news space.

Main tasks of the role:

• Managing the @3newsIreland Twitter account, tweeting key breaking news lines.
• Liaise with the TV3 digital team to select stories for the 3News website
• Act as assistant to News Editor and Deputy News Editor with key newsdesk duties
• Manage intake of copy and story content and deploy resources where required.
• Support Executive Programme Producer with production of late news bulletins
• Manage late news diary/overnight news list and assist with news planning.
• Liaise with reporters in the field to share video to our digital platforms
• Work with our journalists to create bespoke content for digital platforms
• Subtitling 3News packages and clips to post to digital platforms
• Scheduling social media posts and content across the day and night
• Editing video packages for our digital platforms. Training will be provided.
• Bring forward ideas for future digital news coverage.
• Ensure content adheres to high standards of digital journalism.
• Sourcing and obtaining rights to User-Generated Content.
• Ensure digital content meets legal and compliance requirements at all times.

About the person:

The ideal candidate must have:

• A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism.
• A keen news judgement and a good understanding of how visual news media works.
• Proven digital journalism experience, excellent judgement with creative flair, solid writing skills and a deep understanding of Irish and global news.
• Strong experience of how to deliver content on social media platform and best practice in the industry.
• Knowledge of news media and emerging digital technologies. Video editing skills would be advantageous.
• A good understanding of the legal, ethical and editorial processes involved in newsgathering and output.
 
• Ability to be a good team-player and people manager as this role involves working directly with editors, journalists, producers and camera operators across the working day.
• Proven experience in dealing with breaking news stories.
• Extensive experience in broadcast reporting and production.
• Enthusiasm and energy for national broadcast news.
• A robust work ethic that understands the need for flexibility
• Strong interpersonal skills.
