Job Title: Weekend Editor/Executive Producer
Reporting to: Head of News
Duration: Permanent
Location: Ballymount
About the role:
As one of the most senior editorial production positions in the 3News newsroom, the weekend editor/executive producer is responsible for delivering authoritative and compelling news programmes for a live TV audience. The weekend editor/executive producer must be a highly experienced television news producer with a deep understanding of what matters to 3News audiences. She/he must be able to lead and inspire a team of reporters and producers to deliver creative and engaging news content. This role involves managing both intake and output aspects of our weekend news coverage and delivering a trusted and reliable news product, while ensuring strategic deployment of weekend resources. This is a key editorial and production position within 3News. The successful candidate will also be expected to output weekday bulletins on all our channels.
Main tasks of the role:
- Deliver first-class news programmes to air
- Act as weekend duty news editor for all bulletins
- Manage newsdesk and co-ordinate content intake and resources
- Lead and supervise the work of all reporters and producers
- Organise and manage live inputs into our news bulletins
- Structure and create compelling news programmes
- Output our key flagship news programme at 5:30
- Ensure content is factually accurate and legally safe
- Oversee and manage weekend news digital output
- Supervise the creation of compelling graphic content
- Manage weekend news diary and oversee AM bulletin output
About the person:
The ideal candidate must have:
- A minimum of five years’ experience in national broadcasting production
- Exemplary broadcast production skills
- Extensive knowledge of news and current affairs
- A clear understanding of the 3News audience
- A strong ethical commitment to news broadcasting
- A thorough knowledge of all legal issues concerning television news reporting
- Proven experience in dealing with breaking news stories
- First class skills in writing for television
- Gallery experience
- A great news sense and eye for a story
- A track record of achievement in journalism
- A strong contacts book
- Excellent team leadership and organisational skills
- Enthusiasm of - and engagement with – digital news platforms
- A robust work ethic that understands the need for flexibility
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience in producing national television news at programme editor level
- Experience in self-editing on modern news production systems
- A third level qualification in journalism
