TV3 require a Studio Support Engineer

Responsible to: Studio Manager

Purpose of Role:

To provide technical and engineering support to studio productions taking place in TV3’s studios and other locations as may be required.

Principal responsibilities

• To provide front line engineering support for studios and other elements of the broadcast system.
• Monitor studio production sessions, ensuring technical quality standards are maintained.
• Assist in setting up and configuration of technical, lighting and technical staging equipment to meet production requirements.
• Provide technical support where needed in planning and setting up complex studio sets.
• Provide assistance to the technical/operations department as required across the broadcast station.
• Assist with technical development projects across the station as required.

Knowledge

• Minimum three years engineering experience in a live broadcast environment, Studio or Outside Broadcast.
• An excellent knowledge of audio and visual principles.
• Good knowledge of Sony video equipment including cameras, vision mixers.
• Knowledge of Avid newsroom and graphics systems.
• Knowledge of computer controlled lighting systems, DMX networks.
• Knowledge of power systems, emergency generators and building management systems.
• An understanding of Health and Safety in a technical operational environment.

Skills

• Conduct fast efficient fault-finding
• Ability to think around a problem, offering alternative solutions to ensure on air continuity
• Remain calm under pressure when investigating technical faults impeding on-air programmes
• Ability to read and interpret systems drawings, using cable numbering conventions to speed fault-finding through signal tracing
• Attention to detail and quality
• Good time management and organisational skills
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work closely with studio operations staff
• Experience in gallery operations an advantage

The role involves flexible shift work with early, late hours and weekend work.
