Boulder Media requires an Animation Director
Role: Harmony Animation Director
Reporting to: Production Manager / Director
General Responsibilities:
- Have a good knowledge of the show including understanding the style of animation required and a good knowledge of the character models and Rigs.
- Good organisational and time management skills required to ensure you can help your team successfully meet tight deadlines while maintaining your own workload.
- Have good communication skills and the ability to deal with problems and the ability to discipline team members if required.
- Be able to recognise your teams strengths and weaknesses and use this knowledge to create a strong team that can work well together to achieve their individual deadline goals
- Have a clear understanding of the intent of any given scene so judgement can be exercised where necessary to best effectively achieve any given result
- Have a clear understanding of the commercial requirements and limitations of any given show. Artistic intentions may often need to be adjusted to work within budget allowances.
- The quality of animation and the timely delivery of work are equally important. The Animation Director is responsible for each of the animation team's individual output.
Responsibilities Per Episode:
- When the Director is unavailable, this role will step in and approve various pre- production elements such as final character designs, character Special poses, final props designs and help lock Animatics with the animatic editor at V1 and V2 stage
- Attend the Locked Animatic Review team meeting and suggest any additional Special poses or other pre-production assets if required at this stage
- Write up directors notes for each assigned episode where necessary
- As a lead, assign yourself some Animation (either specific scenes or key animation that your team can use throughout the particular episode)
- Assigning scenes using Google docs, ensuring that an equal amount of work is given to each animator
- Sitting with team members before the start of each episode, going through their workload scene by scene, and making sure they understand and can manage their workload well
- Checking and approving key animation as the animators go through their scene. You will be required to alter or use sketches to make sure all key posing is correct
- Approving all exported animation returned to work print for final animation approval. You will be expected to write up any internal retakes and return to the animators before final approval before comp stage
- Using Google docs scene tracking to keep production flow up to date for all departments
- Relaying any issues or problems with the Animation Director or Production Manager ahead of time to prevent delays in the workflow
- Communicating well with other team leads from different departments to make sure everyone is clear about what role they will be playing in each episode
All animation leaving the Animation Department must follow all specifications required:
- Composition matches the animatic
- All materials have been used where required i.e Characters, Special/Additional Poses, Props
- Animation Approved
- FX approved
- Networks are clean
- Files correct length
- Files named correctly
- Viewing T1 renders after compositing. Writing notes for compositing to iron out any final problems / liaising with the Comp department if any Animation retakes need to be amended prior to the T1 Assembly shipment to the client.
- Attending retake assembly viewing sessions to address any client or Director retakes that need addressing.
- Once the retakes have been written up by the production department, lead the approval of these retakes and liaise with the retakes animator if they need any additional help addressing them.
- Attend the Final Assembly where the team sign off on the episode as final locked picture.
- Ensure you remain current and up to date on the latest applicable software programmes.
- You must adhere to terms contained within your contract and follow Company Policies and Procedures as set out in your employee handbook
- Please maintain a clean and tidy workstation
- Please notify management of any problems that may affect your work or position in the company
