PURPOSE OF JOB:

• To manage and lead all aspects of news content creation
• To contribute to the commercial success of news and content within the business
• To manage staff, broadcast resources and talent within responsibility area to ensure budgets are adhered to and compliance standards are achieved
• To ensure newsgathering and programme making to the highest production and editing standards
• To ensure newsgathering and programme making to the highest production and editorial standards

EDITORIAL:

• To take responsibility for all UTV News content on all platforms – television and online
• To develop and deliver strategies to support News operations in conjunction with Head of News other senior managers
• To assume editorial responsibility for news and content on all platforms and services
• To provide practical advice and guidance and propose solutions to editorial staff
• To drive and maintain newsgathering and production standards
• To develop and maintain an extensive contact network and manage relationships with external organisations
• To keep abreast of editorial, legal and regulatory developments and advise management on their relevance and impact for the business
• To ensure compliance with broadcast regulatory and legal requirements

LINE MANAGEMENT:

• To provide constructive feedback on performance to editorial staff on reports/packages produced
• To coach, mentor and develop talent and staff
• To line manage, support and develop senior editorial staff on News floor.
• To identify new talent both on and off screen and to mentor same.
• To regularly review workflows, resources and operations and make recommendations for staffing levels in line with production requirements and business needs
• To lead, inspire and motivate teams on News floor
• To recommend training and development opportunities for personnel within responsibility area and to ensure that staff have the necessary skills and experience to perform their roles
• To be responsible for implementing and raising awareness and understanding of UTV Ireland policies within responsibility area including health and safety and equal opportunities

BUDGETARY/COMMERCIAL:

• To take responsibility for budgets and budgetary control within responsibility area.
• To proactively manage resources and budgets to ensure resources are maximised
• To manage projects within responsibility area and ensure they are delivered within time and budget
• To regularly report to and update senior management on business performance and issues

OTHER:

• To develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
• To participate in the full range of management activities as required and any other duties commensurate with the post to fulfill business needs and operational requirements
• To liaise with the BAI and other broadcast organisations
• To deputise for the Head of News as required and be an ambassador for the Company. To be on call and work outside normal hours as requested
