PURPOSE OF JOB:
To devise the daily sports agenda and provide sports coverage, reporting and analysis for UTV Ireland across all platforms (TV, radio, online and on social media). To manage and develop sports staff

MAIN DUTIES:

• To work in collaboration with the senior editorial team to ensure the highest quality of sport provision is provided across TV, radio, online and on social media
• To identify and develop sports reports across all platforms, working stand-alone or as part of a team
• To play an integral part in setting the day’s sports agenda
• To demonstrate in-depth knowledge of sport in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and GB
• To liaise with reporters, correspondents and producers to ensure the maximum quality of sports coverage and analysis
• In consultation with the News Editor to ensure that there is adequate cover and research to ensure a satisfactory level of coverage of sport matters across the period of each week
• To be the point of contact for relevant sporting bodies and organisations
• To be directly involved in the editorial supervision and pre/post production of individual reports/packages, including writing scripts, sub-titling, introductions etc
• To contribute and “sell” stories and ideas to morning/production meetings and to the senior editorial team
• To take responsibility for legal matters and to ensure all sports material on all platforms complies with broadcasting codes and relevant legal requirements
• To liaise with other resources and content teams to ensure the efficient use of broadcast resources and to ensure the maximum quality of sports coverage on all platforms
• To interview and report on screen, presenting either pre-recorded or live material and to conduct interviews in studio or on location
• To be aware of and act in accordance with health and safety considerations and requirements
• To share in the responsibility for maintaining and managing a detailed sports contact database and diary
• To contribute to live on-air radio bulletins and to contribute to live and pre-recorded discussions on sports matters
• To write and file sports stories and commentary from a variety of sources including television and radio for the online site, group sites and social media
• To work with forward planning to ensure full details of all sports stories are entered into the i-news diary
• To review and make recommendations to senior management with regard to improvements in service provision and cost efficiencies
• To upload relevant still images, video and audio
• To support other team members as required
• To work flexibly across a 7 day roster
• To represent UTV Ireland and contribute to other public events as required
• To undertake any other duties as requested by management
