About the Role:

Virgin Media News is seeking an experienced senior television producer for our flagship current affairs programme, The Tonight Show.
The senior producer will be responsible for outputting live studio, booking guests, generating ideas for content, developing relationships with presenters, guests, agencies and political parties, identifying new talent and understanding the dynamics of panel discussions.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in producing interesting, engaging and editorially-sound current affairs programming.
They will have a strong journalistic background as well as sound editorial judgment and a strong understanding of politics and current affairs content. 
The senior producer will have good working knowledge of digital news platforms and digital production.
This role will involve varied shifts outside of normal office hours and supporting the executive producer.

Specific Duties & Tasks:

  • Outputting live studio programmes.
  • Booking contributors for panel discussions & one-on-one interviews.
  • Working within a team of producers and researchers in the preparation and management of high quality journalistic programming.
  • A commanding knowledge of both traditional and new television production.
  • Sourcing and posting digital news content from TV programmes to online platforms.

The Person: 

  • Extensive experience working in current affairs in television / radio.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Irish political landscape will also be required together with a command of national and international social, cultural, business and economic affairs.
  • A strong contacts book.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent, proven editorial judgement.
  • Excellent social media skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure as part of a busy team and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Exceptional organisation skills.
  • Knowledge of digital news production.
