Kennedy Films – Development Executive

Job Summary:

Louth-based production company KENNEDY FILMS  is an award-winning production company working in both feature films and series, across fiction, documentary and animation. We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated, full-time Development Executive to join our team. The position will involve hybrid working, primarily remotely. There will be some requirement to travel. The role of Development Executive will work creatively on the current development slate of projects, also overseeing management of the admin, and standard finance and legals on each project, in consultation with the Producers. The Development Executive will also be responsible for sourcing new talent and material for development for consideration by the Producers and standing over the development of the project throughout financing and commissioning.

Responsibilities will include:

  • The running of the day-to-day development slate.
  • Script-editing - both written and face-to-face feedback, and also engaging and overseeing external script editors and readers as and when required.
  • Tracking talent, reading submissions, keeping project reports and responding to/rejecting submissions as appropriate, and leading weekly submissions and development meetings
  • Proactively seeking out new talent and potential projects to consider (via liaising with agents, book scouts, keeping abreast of industry and world news, seeking potential adaptive material, etc.) and shortlisting candidates 
  • Securing rights and dealing with agents on these agreements in conjunction with the legal advisor and the producer
  • Preparing funding applications, both development and production, managing contracting for same and ensuring subsequent delivery of materials
  • Developing high quality pitch documents including treatments and assisting with visual support materials
  • Keeping up to date development accounts.
  • Supporting all creative aspects of development, production and post-production as required.

The successful candidate:

  • Is passionate about creative excellence and is an avid consumer of feature film, doc, series and books with a keen awareness of the current landscape,
  • Will have strong experience, qualifications and/or training in the craft of writing for the Screen, and also in film production or related fields.
  • Will have demonstrated experience in script development including but not limited to coverage, script feedback and development notes, the assessment of projects from a creative perspective and the ability to interpret editorial intentions, and to contribute to the generation of ideas and the resolution of script problems
  • Knowledge of key agents and new and existing talent within the industry and is particularly familiar with the Irish screen sector
  • Is comfortable working with business affairs and legal, and has a good understanding of intellectual property rights with strong negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Has experience with public funding applications.
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills and is a resourceful, independent self-starter.
  • Will have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines and can switch gears and manage a variable workload
