Marketing & Communications Manager

At the Irish Film & Television academy (IFTA)

Position: Full-time Permanent position

Location: Dublin (Onsite)

Start Date: September 2022

This is an excellent opportunity for a marketing & communications expert who knows the marketplace, and who has experience of devising and delivering compelling and exciting campaigns across all platforms and partnerships.  An experienced professional with a passion for the film/tv/entertainment industry will join The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA), Ireland’s largest membership-based audiovisual not-for-profit organisation.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will be responsible for driving engagement with all of IFTA’s activity – from our prestigious Awards ceremonies to our year-round learning programme of events and talent development initiatives and for bringing IFTA’s vision and purpose to life to external audiences via the media – both consumer and trade. 

Salary is commensurate with experience

Key responsibilities 

  1. To devise and deliver strategic and creative marketing & communication plans to coincide with the Academy’s current 5 Year Strategic Development Plan, whilst working closely with the Academy’s Management team 
  2. Manage the Academy’s Marketing Schedule and ensure activities and promotional initiatives are efficient, dynamic, and cost effective; ​​Schedule content and promotions to reach targeted audiences using in-house publishing tools and liaise with relevant agencies for content, where appropriate. Work with IFTA’s in-house team to prepare digital campaigns using images/clips/content for IFTA promotional platforms/channels including Website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Newsletters etc. 
  3. Increase Awareness and build the Academy’s profile in Ireland (North & South) and internationally, while delivering a proactive, creative communications roll-out of a clear and compelling story highlighting the important year-round work of the Irish Academy (IFTA)
  4. Work closely with the Academy’s 3rd party PR Company across the Awards events and ensure that agreed PR strategy is implemented and that IFTAs work and reputation is protected.
  5. Be an Ambassador for the Academy Brand and represent the Academy at key film and television events as well as Marketing and Festivals events both in Ireland and internationally.
  6. Maintain, develop and grow new and existing relationships with key organisations and brands across partnership and sponsorship, while exhibiting a high quality and standard of engagement; and generate new commercial opportunities to support the Academy’s facilities and programs to maximize financial and in-kind support.
  7. Prepare and present IFTA partnership proposals to interested parties outlining the benefits of partnership with the Academy across the Awards Shows; Learning Programme of events; Talent Hub Sessions; Women in Focus events; Actors Forum; Discussions, Masterclasses etc.
  8. Gather, invest in, and summarise market data and trends for draft reports. Manage & track marketing campaigns and statistics across general and social media engagement, audience reach and other feedback and liaise with the Media tracking and analysis service provider.
  9. Keep abreast of new Marketing trends and developments that influence the film & television business along with tools and initiatives that create successful engagement with public and industry. 
  10. Prepare marketing presentations for IFTA management and perform ongoing market analysis and research and collect quantitative data from IFTA marketing campaigns and prepare weekly updates/reports to track growth/success rates..
  11. Present budgets and expense reports to management and prepare annual budget plans with new marketing targets, expenditures, and ensuring that goals are reached.
  12. Stay current in the industry by attending educational opportunities, conferences, and workshops, reading publications, and maintain and grow personal and professional networks within the film & television sector.

Essential Criteria for this role:

1.   Have at least 5 years’ experience and track record in a marketing / communications role and hold a degree in Marketing & Communications (or related area).  Strong commercial awareness and ability to develop a vision, formulate strategy and deliver objectives.

2.   Have excellent media management skills along with written skills and experience writing PR briefs and managing PR agencies and their deliverables for the Academy.

3.   Have an in-depth knowledge of and direct experience in dealing with PR Agencies, Ad agencies, Brand managers, Media platforms and Government bodies, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with people at all levels with diplomacy and professionalism.  

4.   Have a track record in delivering the practical side of marketing and relationship building; researching key prospects for partnerships; securing introductions; developing and delivering compelling pitches; working with and influencing individuals at senior levels; and building long-term relationships.

5.   Have Excellent relationships with Media platforms and national press and film/TV trade press with a creative flair and ability to spot and cultivate opportunities for positive media coverage.

6.   Have an ability to manage & track marketing campaigns and statistics across all Media platforms and audience reach and to understand and analyse sales performance Metrics, SEO, or PPC marketing.

7.   Excellent IT and presentation skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Google Drive. Basic experience in Photoshop / Canva or similar, is advantageous.

8.   Awareness of Irish Film & Television industry is desirable.

IFTA is a not-for-profit all-Ireland organisation with a membership of 1,300 Irish industry professionals who work within the Film, Television, Animation & Cultural Creative sectors in Ireland.  The Academy nurtures, supports Irish creative talent and showcases and rewards Irish Excellence in achievement to the world. 

The Academy will celebrate its 20th Anniversary Year, next year in 2023 with a wide range of high-profile initiatives in the planning across film, television and animation, to mark this milestone year.  In addition to producing the annual Awards ceremonies, we have a year-round Learning Programme of events and initiatives that offer unique access to some of the world’s most inspiring and high profile talent (Actors, Directors, Writers, cinematographers etc) through discussions, masterclasses, workshops, lectures, and mentoring programmes.
