Sixteen South requires a Series Art Director

Job Title: Series Art Director
Project:
80 x 11 minute 2D animation series

Please do not apply unless you have 3 series of credits for an international or UK terrestrial broadcaster, at art director level. Please indicate that you have experience of and are used to working with existing IP.

Sixteen South is a company that creates and produces television for children around the world.

Founded in Belfast in 2007 by Colin Williams the company has partnered with major names in children's entertainment co-producing shows with Sesame Workshop, The Jim Henson Company and the BBC.

The company has already won over 20 major international television awards including a BAFTA award and two Emmy nominations, and in business they have been ranked among the UK's top indie producers by Televisual. They were awarded the 2016 Children’s BAFTA for Independent Production Company of the Year.

Sixteen South are currently preparing for the production of an 80 part 2D animation series, having successfully completed production of a pilot episode.

The series will be based on existing IP of an established, best selling US author and illustrator.

The series is all about self-expression – tackling challenges creatively and showing what happens when people with very different points of view and ways of approaching problems join forces.

The environment and design style is rich, vibrant and original, using collaged designs.

Animation will take place in CelAction and we will work with our talented animation team who have recently completed production of the second series of Lily’s Driftwood Bay.

We are looking to recruit an experienced art director, with extensive multi-episodic experience who is comfortable and adept at leading a team from a creative and managerial perspective.

  • In conjunction with the Technical Manager and Line Producer, establish an effective workflow, to integrate all processes including storyboarding, design, layout and rigging.

  • Provide feedback, direction and supervision to other artists within the art department, including remote workers. To motivate, manage and produce effective results across the art team. To take feedback positively and make recommendations that are achievable within agreed budget and schedule.
  • In conjunction with the Line Producer, give effective feedback and manage poor performance if required. Agree and deliver workable schedules.
  • Support the Director, and Animation Director by clearly communicating and helping the Art Department team to achieve art direction goals within prescribed timescales.
  • Deliver results that meet or exceed expectations.
  • Help to create a positive, effective and efficient working environment.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive Portfolio showing examples of concept and production design, character turnarounds, prop and background design for the purpose of animation series.
  • A keen and critical eye for framing, composition, colour, lighting, design, style and impact, with an excellent attention to detail.  Excellent drawing skills with a great sense of perspective.
  • Broadcast credits as a series Art Director, for at least 3 series.
  • Proven ability to mentor, supervise and effectively manage other artists.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
