Break Out Pictures acquires Fleadh-bound documentary The 8th
07 Jul 2020 : Nathan Griffin
The 8th
Ahead of its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh tonight Break Out Pictures has announced that they will release The 8th in cinemas across Ireland this Autumn.

The highly anticipated film has already screened at the prestigious Hot Docs festival to great acclaim.

The 8th traces Ireland’s campaign to remove the 8th Amendment – a constitutional ban on abortion. Following the dynamic female leaders of the pro-choice campaign as they engineer the impossible this dramatic story is underscored by a vivid exploration of the wrenching failures that led to this defining moment in Ireland’s history.

An urgent narrative, a cautionary tale and a country forging a new path; The 8th is must-see this Autumn.

Speaking on the upcoming release and it’s Irish premiere tonight, Directors Maeve O’Boyle, Lucy Kennedy and Aideen Kane said:

"We couldn't be happier that our first screening in Ireland is the Opening Night of the Galway Film Fleadh. This is a story about Ireland and the incredible movement that changed Irish women's lives.  We look forward to bringing it to as many audiences as possible around Ireland later this year.”

The 8th was made with the support of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, a grant from Open Society Foundations, Incentives for the Irish Film Industry provided by the Government of Ireland, Fork Films, Sabrina Merage Foundation, Ford Foundation / JustFilms & Archer Gray.

The 8th is a Black Tabby Films production in association with Fork Films and Cowtown Pictures.
