The winter warm-up has arrived and there is a Santa sack full of new shows ‘Christmas With Daniel’, ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’, The O’Donovan brothers, Nathan Carter, ‘Bridget & Eamon’ plus many more across film, documentary, entertainment, the best in Irish comedy to music specials, live sport and brand new Irish drama, there is bumper selection catering for all tastes this holiday season.
Film fans can look forward to a range of movies including Irish comedy ‘The Flag’ with Pat Shortt, ‘Calvary’ with Brendan Gleeson, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy’, ‘Bad Neighbours’, ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, ‘Rush, 300: Rise of an Empire’ and firm favourites including ‘Love, Actually’, ‘While You Were Sleeping’, ‘Notting Hill’, ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘Die Hard 2’. Keep the little ones entertained with movies including ‘Frozen’, ‘The Lego Movie’, ‘Monsters University’, ‘Despicable Me 2’, ‘Rio 2’, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ and ‘Muppets Most Wanted’.
Music fans can look forward to a playlist on RTÉ One and RTÉ2. Join Daniel O’Donnell for a festive celebration ‘Christmas With Daniel’, exclusively recorded at his sold out Christmas show at the Convention Centre Dublin. There are also plenty of treats lined up as Nathan Carter hosts a special Christmas edition of his show; recorded in Dublin’s Mansion House with performances from Billy Ocean, KT Tunstall, Paddy Moloney, Eleanor Shanley and Al Porter.
For sports fans one of the highlights of the schedule will be the one-hour documentary ‘Pull Like A Dog’ on December 27th. It follows the O’Donovan brothers as they return home to Skibbereen Rowing Club in the aftermath of their success at this year's Olympics.
Comedy wise Brendan O’Carroll’s ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ is back for not one but two new festive specials. Agnes Brown has had enough hassle with Christmas trees to last a lifetime, so this year she refuses to have one. ‘Bridget & Eamon’ will be on RTÉ2 for some belly laughs as the duo get the turkey treatment in their festive special entitled ‘The Day After Christmas’.
