Peter Foott’s award-winning feature releases to Irish cinemas on Friday, September 16th.
The trailer stars young newcomers Chris Walley and Alex Murphy as Conor and Jock, and opens on the iconic Patrick’s Hill green area of Cork City. The film was praised by Graham Norton earlier this month as, “…funny, outrageous, and full of heart.”
Inspired by the true story of Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure in 2007, The Young Offenders is a comedy road movie about best friends Conor and Jock, two inner-city teenagers from Cork. When a drug-trafficking boat capsizes off the coast of West Cork and 61 bales of cocaine, each worth €7m are seized, word gets out that there’s a bale missing. The boys steal two bikes and go on a road trip to find bale 62 but not everything goes to plan.
‘Young Offenders’ shared the Best Feature Film at the Galway Film Fleadh with ‘A Date for Mad Mary’. It received a standing ovation last week when it played to a home audience in Cork and is scheduled to have its Dublin premiere on September 8th.
It will open in the majority of Irish cinemas making it the widest release of an Irish film so far this year. The Dublin premiere will take place on Thursday 8th September. Previews will take place all over the country on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September, and the film will be released nationwide on Friday 16th September.
‘Young Offenders’ is distributed by Wildcard Distribution and received funding from the Irish Film Board.
