Irish actor Aidan Turner has been nominated for a National Television Award in the UK for his lead performance in BBC drama ‘Poldark’.
The Dublin actor has been nominated alongside David Tennant in ‘Broadchurch’, Sheridan Smith in ‘Black Work’ and Suranne Jones in ‘Doctor Foster’.
Turner is best known for his role in Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy and upcoming roles include Jim Sheridan’s much anticipated feature ‘The Secret Scripture’ – co-starring Oscar nominee Rooney Mara in the lead role.
Also of Irish interest among the National Television Award nominees is Graham Norton, shortlisted for the Best TV Presenter award, with his BBC chat show also nominated for Best Entertainment Programme. Northern Irish shot series ‘Game of Thrones’ has also been nominated in the international category.
Voting is open at nationaltvawards.com with the winners announced in a special live ITV show hosted by Dermot O'Leary on January 20.
