Bootstrap Films short film ‘Vicious Circle’ licenced to TG4, Production company Forty Foot Pictures have two films selected for this year’s Galway Film Fleadh and ‘The Caller’ to premiere at the Fleadh also.
Bootstrap Films 1916 short licenced to TG4
Bootstrap Films has announced that it has licensed its short film, ‘Vicious Circle’ to TG4.
Written by Alan Walsh and Columb Farrelly and Directed by Alan Walsh, it is set in 1916 during Ireland's struggle for freedom and shot in black and white.
It tells the story of three people caught in a web of continuing violence and introduces a parallel to today's events in Northern Ireland.
Executive Producer John Phelan of Bootstrap Films said: “We are delighted that TG4 has taken our tribute and moving film on 1916. It was a very personal film for director Alan Walsh and one we are very proud of”.
The cast on the 26 minute short film includes Niall Buggy, Simon Delaney and Ben Palmer.
Forty Foot Pictures gear up for double header at the Galway Film Fleadh
Dublin and London based production company Forty Foot Pictures will have two short films screening at the Galway Film Fleadh this year.
Founded in 2014 by Collie McCarthy, this is Forty Foot Pictures first two short films.
Starring Robert Hardy (‘Harry Potter’) and Alice Lowe (‘Sightseers’), ‘Joseph’s Reel’ made its premiere last month at the Palm Springs International Shortfest and tells the story of an elderly man who is given the chance to return to his favourite memory. The other short film is entitled ‘Coil’ and stars Joe Mullins (‘Pilgrim Hill’).
The 15 minute thriller is about a lonely priest in a small rural community has his world turned upside down when a strange trinket is left anonymously at his front door. This offering sparks in him an uneasy curiosity leading Patrick towards a dark encounter with the occult. His attempt to uncover what’s going on forces him to confront his own waning faith as he edges closer to the sinister threat of his mysterious tormentor.
Forty Foot Pictures Founder Collie McCarthy has been busy as of late as he also became Creative Assistant at Shoebox Films this year, working under Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning producer Paul Webster (‘Atonement’, ‘Eastern Promises’, ‘Sexy Beast’). They have just finished up working on upcoming fantasy film ‘Pan’.
McCarthy is one of only two producers to have two shorts screening at the Fleadh this year. The other is Brian J.Falconer whose shorts ‘Awaydays’ and ‘Insulin’ are showing at the festival. Falconer also recently produced ‘Boogaloo and Graham’, garnering Oscar and IFTA nominations as well as a BAFTA Award in the process.
‘The Caller’ screening at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh
Short film ‘The Caller’ will screen at the Galway Film Fleadh on Friday 10th July at 12PM in the Town Hall Theatre.
Produced by Caroline Grace -Cassidy and directed by Steve Gunn, ‘The Caller’ is a short film about everyday life and how people get through it. It tells the story of Larry King who has lost his job – with a routine visit from the rent inspector getting too close for comfort.
This is producer Caroline Grace- Cassidy’s third consecutive year screening a film at the Fleadh. Speaking to IFTN, she stated that this years’ experience is “as exciting as the first. The Fleadh is just a wonderful vibrant, special festival and I love the atmosphere, it is unique.”
In a busy summer for the producer, a feature film that Caroline pitched at the Pitching Competition of the Fleadh last year – ‘Girls Weekend’ - has just been picked up by a film company in LA and is slated to go into production in Dublin and Lisdoonvarna in July 2016.
