David Wilmot cast in HBO mini-series ‘Lewis And Clark’

Irish actor David Wilmot has landed a supporting role in the HBO mini-series ‘Lewis And Clark’ opposite Casey Affleck and Matthias Schoenaerts.

The mini-series tells the true story of Meriwether Lewis (Affleck) and William Clark's (Schoenaerts) expedition west of the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast in the early 1800s. Wilmot will play one of the men under the duo's command in the Corps of Discovery.

The miniseries is based on the book Undaunted Courage by Band of Brothers author Stephen E Ambrose.

Wilmot is coming off the back of a busy 2014 with roles in ‘Ripper Street’, ‘Calvary’, ‘Gold’ and ‘71’.

Jack Reynor for World War 2 Drama ‘HHHH’

Jack Reynor, IFTA nominated this year for Gerard Barrett’s ‘Glassland’, has been cast in Cedric Jimenez’s upcoming World War 2 drama ‘HHHH’ opposite Rosamund Pike and Mia Wasikowska.

The Wicklow native will also star in the movie alongside ‘71’ actor Jack O’Connell and Jason Clarke.

Based on the award winning novel by Laurent Binet and adapted by director Cedric Jimenez, the 23-year-old actor will play one of the resistance paratrooper’s in the Nazi Germany based film.

‘HHHH’ will star Jason Clarke as Heydrich, the highest-ranked Nazi officer who was considered to be the mastermind of the “Final Solution” and was assassinated by two resistance paratroopers in 1942.

The film will follow the two paratroopers who were personally chosen by Winston Churchill and President of Czechoslovakia Edvard Beneš.

This follows a slew of recent blockbuster roles over the past 12 months for Reynor which include ‘Jungle Book: Origins’, ‘A Royal Night Out’ and ‘Macbeth’.

Ruth Negga lands role in Jeff Nichols’ ‘Loving’

Ruth Negga has been cast in ‘Mud’ director Jeff Nichols’ upcoming film ‘Loving’.

The film is based on the landmark civil rights case Loving v. Virginia, which was brought by Mildred Loving, a black woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, who had been sentenced to a year in prison in Virginia for marrying each other. Their marriage violated the state’s anti-miscegenation statute, the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited marriage between people classified as “white” and people classified as “colored”. The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision held this prohibition was unconstitutional and ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

Negga will play Mildred Loving, with Joel Edgerton cast as her husband Richard. Filming starts in September, after Nichols completes work on his first studio project, the Warner Bros. sci-fi film ‘Midnight Special’.

Negga has been gaining US notice of late with her role in ‘Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’. She has also been cast in comic-book adaptation series ‘Preacher’ as Tulip O’ Hare.

Barry Keoghan lands lead in ‘I Want To Be Like You’

Barry Keoghan has landed the lead in Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov’s new coming-of-age drama ‘I Want To Be Like You’.

Keoghan plays Pawel, a second generation immigrant and budding artist, who lives with his mother in Birmingham. When his mother attempts to bring him to Bulgaria for the summer holidays he instead sets out to find his hero, the legendary French painter Arnaud.

Keoghan is best known to Irish audiences for his role as Wayne in IFTA-winning Irish drama ‘Love/Hate’. Film roles include ‘Stalker’ and ‘71’ with the young Dublin actor soon to be seen in Rebecca Daly’s ‘Mammal’, in which he plays a lead role alongside veteran Australian actress Rachel Griffiths. Keoghan will also star in Rachael Moriarty and Peter Murphy upcoming ‘Traders’, with Killian Scott; and Adam Smith’s ‘Trespass Against Us’, with Brendan Gleeson and Michael Fassbender.

‘I Want To Be Like You’ is based off a script by British writer Rebecca Lenckiewicz, who co-wrote the Oscar winning ‘Ida’ with director Pawel Pawlikowski.

‘I Want To Be Like You’ is a Danish/UK/Belgian/Bulgarian co-production. Shooting will take place in and around Copenhagen, the West Midlands in the UK, and Belgium, commencing in July.
