'Feirm'
This week on TG4, a number of new series, drama and documentaries are scheduled to air. While last night the documentary ‘Scéal Danno’ was aired – a feature about Danno O’ Mahoney, a Corkman who became a professional wrestler in the US – the award-winning doc ‘Tortaí na Daoirse’ will be airing this Wednesday night.

Tuesday night sees the start of an entertaining new series called ‘An Lá a Rugadh Mé’, where well-known faces sift through the Irish newspapers, radio and television archive to see what was making headlines on the day he/she was born. The ten part social documentary series hosts a variety of guest presenters with the opening episode seeing broadcaster Evelyn O’Rourke meet a woman who was kidnapped in Dublin’s Henry Street on the day of her birth.

Other guest presenters during the series include Paul Galvin, Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, John Spillane, Don Wycherley, Úna Mullally and Alan Dukes.

As well as making an appearance on ‘An Lá a Rugadh Mé’, John Spillane is also back with his second series of ‘Spillane an Fánaí’ where the musician goes on another musical voyage of discovery. Spillane spends a week in six different locations (Boyle in Roscommon, Youghal in Cork, Athenry in Galway, Kells in Meath, Killaloe in Clare, and Gorey in Wexford), working in a pub and venturing out to meet a host of locals in search of musical inspiration for his songwriting in the uniqueness and character of small town life. The shows airs on Tuesday night.

On Thursday we see the new series ‘Feirm’, which is new six-part series that brings the viewer into the heart of 21st century farming with presenter Olympian Jamie Costin. We meet the people, projects and products that are transforming our country into a world leader in agricultural innovation, from fellow farmers and pioneering agricultural scientists to multi-million indigenous companies such as Dairymaster. Experts from Teagasc, the universities, the Department of Agriculture, Bord na Móna, Glanbia and Treemetrics share cutting-edge research in their labs and research sites

Also on Thursday, the brand new series ‘An Bronntanas’ starts. The highly-anticipated five-part contemporary thriller is set against the backdrop of the rugged Connemara coastline and the dramatic lives of a local lifeboat crew. Directed by Tom Collins, the series stars Owen McDonnell, Dara Devaney, Pól Ó Gríofa, John Finn, Michelle Beamish, Charlotte Bradley and Seán Whatton.

The series producer for ‘An Lá a Rugadh Mé’ is Ciaran Gallagher. The series is directed by Darina Clancy who produces with Brighid Breathnach. DOP for the series was Martin Birney, Sam Horgan was on sound, and Mary Crumlish and Shane Callan edited.

‘Feirm’ is directed by Paschal Cassidy, produced by Ciara Nic Chormaic and presented by Jamie Costin. Paschal Cassidy is DOP with Eoin Kelly Smith on camera. Bob Brennan and Hugh Fox were on sound with Eoin McDonagh as editor.

For ‘Spillane an Fánaí’, Barry Donnellan and Paschal Cassidy were directors and DOPs. Tony McCarthy produced and John Spillane wrote the series. Stephen McLoughlin was on sound and Tony Murphy was editor.
