Dublin-based training institution The Factory will offer five filmmakers the chance to shoot a professional-standard promo for a proposed micro-budget feature film, IFTN has learned.

'Cornerstone' is a new initiative aimed at developing high-concept ideas for micro-budget feature film. Through it, The Factory hopes to offer ambitious filmmakers the chance to get these ideas off the ground by funding a promotional video - to feature the film's basic concept, atmosphere and directorial style - to the tune of €5,000.

"Our ultimate aim for Cornerstone is to help create highly developed micro budgeted feature films that are ahead of the curve when seeking finance," says The Factory's Head of Training, Viko Nikci. "Ideally, the outcome will be five new high calibre Irish films that will be produced and distributed in the next 2 years."

The aim is to inspire collaboration and experimentation from the earliest possible stage, so that all involved can work towards the common goal of nurturing that idea through the production process and onto the screen. To that end, successful candidates will not only receive funding, but will have access to all of The Factory's facilities as well as an office for the duration of the programme.

More significantly, however, the five filmmakers will work alongside participants in The Factory's Programme for Screen Acting - 26 thespians, male and female, chosen to take part in a year-long training programme under the tutelage of actors such as Cillian Murphy, Tim Roth and Saoirse Ronan. But in highlighting this collaborative aspect so prominently, what does Viko hope to add?

"It should simply work better. More finance, more creatives, more mentors and resources from the very start of an idea will ideally lead to an end product that is fully realized and accessible to a larger audience."

Indeed, finding an audience for these potential feature films will also be a core goal of Cornerstone - upon completion, promos will screen at The Factory premises to an audience of industry professionals and members of the Irish Film Board, with an eye to potential production deals.

No previous industry experience is required in order to apply, though those with experience are also eligible to apply. Applicants can apply as a writer/director team or individually, and a €50 submission fee is required, to be sent to The Factory headquarters at The 35a Barrow Street, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 4.

For further details on how to apply, click through to The Factory website here. The deadline is January 7th 2014.
