RTÉ’s Seeks Gameshow & Entertainment Ideas
03 Apr 2012 : By Eva Hall
RTÉ’s call for ideas for Young Peoples’ Programme deadline is tomorrow, Wednesday 4 April. The broadcaster is looking for proposals for a gameshow or entertainment series which targets an audience of 9-12-year-olds. The 25 minute-long episodes, 9 in total, will air in the ‘early evening’ slot. RTÉ is offering a budget of €241,000.

Applicants are encouraged to provide ideas which come packed with humour, anarchy and passion. They are advised that tweens in this age category are curious about growing up, attaining independence from their parents, and are heavily involved in social media. RTÉ’s previous ‘early evening’ shows targeting this audience include ‘Frenemies’, a debate-based game show, a teen version of ‘The Lyrics Board’, and tween favourite, ‘OMG! Jedward’s Dream Factory’. These were aired on weekdays from 7pm onwards, competing against soap opera’s such as ‘Emmerdale’ on TV3, and topical programme ‘The One Show’ on BBC One.

This target audience are also interested in entertainment programmes made for adults, such as ‘Deal or No Deal’ and ‘Masterchef’. RTÉ are calling for the new series to include the production values of adult/family shows: the jeopardy, the entertainment and the fun.

The series is expected to be filmed in a studio environment, however applications aimed for location filming which meet RTÉ’s budget requirements are welcomed. The completed series must be available for broadcast on RTÉ from 3 September 2012.

Those interested in submitting proposals can do so through RTÉ’s eCommissioning system under the programme category Young Peoples’ ‘Gameshow or Entertainment Series’ by tomorrow, 4 April.
