The Irish Language Broadcast Fund has announced its third and final funding round of 2008.
The ILBF consists of £3m per annum with funding provided by DCAL (Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure). The fund invests in at least 75 hours of Irish language output per annum which is broadcast on TG4, BBC NI and RTÉ.
In the third round, funding will be awarded to Solas & Besom Productions to produce an observational documentary series provisionally entitled ‘Cailíní na Cathrach’ for TG4. The series will follow the lives of 3 young women as they reach turning points in their lives.
Also for TG4, Stirling Film & TV Productions has been funded to produce a series which will look at the fishing industry and difficulties facing fishermen in Donegal. The company has also been awarded funding to develop a third series of the youth drama series ‘Seacht’.
In the factual documentary genre, the ILBF fund has awarded additional funding to Imagine Media for their series on the Plantation of Ulster for BBC Northern Ireland/ TG4. Imagine has also received funding to produce a second series of ‘Gaisce Gnó’ for BBC NI and to produce a series of short films for BBC NI and online and the series ‘Comharthaí Riachtanacha’ for TG4.
Other companies to receive funding include Waddell Media’s ‘Stíl na Réalt’, Zoogon animation entitled ‘Franny’s Feet’ and Ulysses has received development funding for a historical documentary series on Irish women in prison all for TG4.
