A one-hour documentary from award-winning filmmaker Sean O Mordha, which examines the contentious relationship between artists and official Ireland in the twentieth century. Sean O Mordha brings his customary rigorous intelligence and breadth of vision to bear in this significant and substantial examination of the position of the artist in contemporary Irish life. Sean O Mordha has specialised in documentaries"on literary and artistic subjects, including the major film on James Joyce 'Is There One Who Understands Me?' which won an Emmy award in 1982 as Documentary of the Year, and 'Silence To Silence', the seminal documentary on the life and work of Nobel prize-winning playwright, Samuel Beckett. His most recent television series for RTE 'Seven Ages' on the history of the Irish State, won the Television Features and Documentary Award at the ESB National Media Awards 2000.
