Last summer Eamonn O'Doherty and Deirdre Morgan, student radicals in the early 80's, took up a long standing invitation from an old friend, journalist Michael McCaughan, to leave suburban Dublin for the Mexican jungle. With their children Aoife (4), and Siuan (1), they travelled to Chiapas in Mexico to live with the Mayan Indian community, established on land which was occupied after the uprising of the Zaptista rebels in 1994. There they gained first-hand experience of the Zaptistas through observing the lives of a community living under the shadow of 50,000 Mexican Army troops. The couple's experiences and difficulties make this an evocative and deeply affecting film.
