17th June, 2016 Screen Training Ireland - Traditional Tailoring for Costume - Application Deadline

This programme, taking place over six consecutive Saturdays over July and August (9th, 16th and 23rd of July, 6th, 13th and 20th of August), aims to give costume personnel a practical grounding in traditional tailoring techniques, which can be applied to tailoring for all periods.

The programme will kick off on the first morning with a lecture on the last 200 years of menswear from costume designer Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh. This will be followed by a series of practical weekly workshops led by Gillian Carew, during which participants will make a tailored jacket encompassing many basic and advanced tailoring techniques.

Steve Kaplan's Comedy Intensive, is a 2-day workshop that covers the fundamental principles of comedy: what it is, how it works, why it works, what's going on when it's not working, and what you can do about it! The workshop includes interactive exercises, solo and group writing activities, as well as a liberal use of clips from current and classic comedies to illustrate our points and principles.

An introduction from Festival Director Tony Jones: It’s a celebration of film – past present and future. So, it’s a chance to relive and enjoy past glories, but also to see what’s happening in film right now, and reveal new talents who will shape the future of cinema. A good example of that is a chap who had his student short selected for the programme here back in 1996, named Christopher Nolan. Apparently he’s done quite well since!

This year’s IFI Documentary Festival, running from September 22nd to 25th, is looking for original and exciting documentary films from Irish filmmakers to include in the festival. So if your film fits the bill, now is the time to prepare your entries as submissions are open for Irish short documentaries (under 20 minutes), and Irish feature length documentaries (over 60 minutes).
