In this one-day masterclass in association with the Galway Film Centre, good factual commentary writing is explored structurally: not just as a practical how-to, but also as a key component of film language, as integral to story-telling as good directing, good interviews and good music.
The course is discursive and interactive bringing together history, criticism, producers’ responsibilities, influences and resources with a wealth of clips and examples. It is ideal if you find commentary writing tough and unrewarding. It also provides insights into why some commentary works while some doesn’t.

Screen Training Ireland and the Galway Film Centre will hold a one day Commentary Writing Masterclass on Tuesday January 19th in Galway city. This is part of a series of seminars on writing for non-drama television.
This masterclass is tutored by UK executive producer, Patrick Uden, who is called on by broadcasters and indies to hone and tighten the commentary on their key series.
