28 Nov 2023 : News Desk
Luto
Ireland-Mexico co-production, Luto, is the debut feature film of director Andres Arochi. Combining drama and documentary, the film is set to premiere at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Luto marks the feature debut of director Andres Arochi. Arochi’s career has encompassed a wide range of projects and collaborations, including music videos for artists such as Harry Styles, Lykke Li, FKJ, Major Lazer, DJ Shadow, RYX, Alessandro Cortini and J Balvin among others. He is also the cinematographer for Osgood Perkins' upcoming film, Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage and Mika Monroe.

The plot of the film is described as follows: “In a desperate attempt to overcome the grief caused by his girlfriend’s passing, Damian sets off on a journey across Mexico. Haunted by memories and regrets, he finds solace through conversations with strangers, witnessing the rituals they participate in to cope with death.”

Luto was shot entirely in Mexico, and the crew traversed over 14000 kilometers during production. The film uses a combination of drama and documentary to look at grief, and rituals around death in contemporary Mexico.

As well as directing the film, Arochi co-wrote the film with Gonzalo Romero and co-produced the film with Santiago Tron. Sebastian Lechuga composed the score for the film. Galo Olivares and Archi handled cinematography, and editing was done by Arochi,  Sergio Beltrán-García, and Didac Palou. Carla and Delwyn Mooney of Ireland’s Cardel Entertainment co-produced the film with Mexico’s Imagenes de Volcanes.

Luto will have its World premiere at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Saturday 25th November in Goa, competing in the new category Docu-Montage.
