Sky Launches Sky Cinema Original Films
25 Jan 2018 :
Building on its successful original productions entertainment strategy, Sky has announced the launch of Sky Cinema Original Films. By acquiring exclusive rights and commissioning original movie productions, Sky will provide customers with even more great film content, in addition to the 1,000 movies available on demand.

The first film to be released, animated comedy ‘Monster Family’, will launch in March 2018, with the Rob Cohen directed action movie ‘The Hurricane Heist’ set to follow later in April with sci-fi crime thriller ‘Anon’ and British production ‘Final Score’ coming later this year.

As part of this move Sky plans to show its original films in cinemas at the same time as they become available for Sky Cinema customers. For sky customers this means they will not need to wait several months before they can watch the movie at home, and it is positive news for cinemas across the UK and Ireland too, as they are set to benefit from Sky’s marketing and the increased footfall that comes with it.

Ian Lewis, Group Director of Sky Cinema, said:

“Sky Cinema already offers Hollywood hits, cult classics and local legends, and with Sky Cinema Original Films we’re going to bring our customers even more laughs, shocks, tears and memories than ever before.

“Sky’s original content strategy has already been successful across eight genres of television – now we’re taking it to film to give our content-hungry customers even more reasons to keep coming back.”

This is only the start for Sky Cinema Original Films with more movies to be announced soon. In addition to Sky Original Films, Sky Cinema already premieres a new film every day, and has thousands of films available right now through Sky Store, Sky’s entertainment market place.

Sky Cinema is also available on Demand and via NOW TV.
