Season one of the IFTA award-winning Irish comedy series, ‘Bridget & Eamon’ made by Pure Class productions for RTÉ is now available to watch on Amazon in the US.
The shows twitter profile recently posted about the news saying the show is “now live on Amazon Video US!” Using the hashtags ‘Irish’ and ‘Bargain’ as it will be free to watch for American viewers with Amazon Prime.
The show's concept originated in a comedy sketch on RTÉ 2’s satirical ‘Republic of Telly’ and was commissioned by RTÉ 2 in response to its popularity on television and social media.
Written by Bernard O'Shea, Jennifer Zamparelli and Jason Butler. ‘Bridget & Eamon’ is set in the 1980s and stars Zamparelli as housewife Bridget and O'Shea as her hapless husband Eamon.
It centres on the unhappily married couple, who live somewhere in the Irish Midlands with an indeterminate number of children. Chain-smoking Bridget has “notions.” She wants the lifestyle from the pages of Woman’s Way, but times are tight and among Eamon’s many annoying habits is his inability to make money.
Speaking to IFTN previously about her character Bridget, Jennifer Zamparelli said: “A lot of people ask me if Bridget is based on my own but she’s not solely based on her, for a start my own mam’s not a chain smoker but she is definitely a bit of my mam, a bit of my sister, my neighbour, I think she’s inspired by a lot of the females in my life that happened to be around at that certain time.”
Some Irish comedians who have featured in the show include Colum McDonnell, Edwin Sammon and most recently in the second season which aired last November on RTÉ 2 Katherine Lynch, who appeared as Eamon’s chain smoking Mammy, with big glasses and big hair.
