‘In Loco Parentis’ Film Rolls Out in Various Cinemas Across Ireland
07 Mar 2017 : Laura Brennan
Neasa Ní Chianáin’s documentary film ‘In Loco Parentis’ set in Ireland’s last primary boarding school, Headfort School has opened for viewing at Dublin’s Irish Film Institute and is soon to be rolled out across other Irish cinemas from Friday 10th March.

The film which has been winning international critical acclaim takes a heart-warming look at the lives of two soon-to-be-retired teachers and a married couple of almost 50 years. Their passion and idiosyncratic teaching styles inspire and challenge the young students in their care.

“We are over the moon that audiences in Dublin and around the country will get a chance to see this life-affirming film,” said Neasa Ní Chianáin.

Critics at some of the world’s top documentary film festivals including IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival, Amsterdam) and Sundance have variously described it as  ‘engaging’, ‘uplifting’, ‘delightful’, ‘compelling’, ‘magical’ and ‘utterly charming’.

Audiences are drawn into the topsy-turvy world of Latin and rock music, Shakespeare and forts in the magical Hogwarts like 18th-century Headfort School in Kells, Co Meath.

‘In Loco Parentis’ had its Irish debut at the Audi International Dublin Film Festival in February. It will now run twice daily up until the 10th March at the IFI.

Some special Q&A event screenings with directors and cast have so far taken place in the Omniplex Cinema in Rathmines and there are more to come in Dundalk (7th March), Cork (8th March) and Limerick (9th March).

The film will then be rolled out in each of the four cinemas in Rathmines, Dundalk, Cork and Limerick from Friday 10th March.

‘In Loco Parentis’ will also go on general release to Eye Cinema, Galway, Century Cinemas, Letterkenny and Eclipse Cinema Bundoran and Lifford from Friday 10th March.

In Loco Parentis was funded by The Irish Film Board, the BAI, RTÉ, Section 481Tax Incentives, RTVE (Spain), Culture Ireland and supported by the Arts office of Meath County Council.
