Worldwide Rights to ‘In Loco Parentis’ acquired by Magnolia Pictures
13 Feb 2017 : Katie McNeice
The touching portrait of teachers Amanda and John Leyden in Heartfort boarding school for primary students in Kells, Co. Meath is helmed by Irish talents Neasa Ní Chianáin directed and David Rane.

It is one of several Irish projects which travelled to Sundance 2017, with fellow documentary ‘It’s Not Yet Dark’ (Frankie Fenton) and feature project ‘Bad Day for the Cut’ (Chris Baugh) also screening.

‘In Loco Parentis’ is Soilsiu Films project in co-production with GrisMedio, produced by Rane, Efthymia Zymvragaki, Angelo Orlando and Montse Portabella.

The documentary is due to enjoy its Irish premiere at the upcoming Audi Dublin International Film Festival on Monday 20th, at an already sold-out screening. Limited tickets are available however, for an additional screening on Thursday, February 23rd.

Neasa Ní Chianáin, Co-Director:
“Audience-wise, there was an overwhelmingly positive response to the film [at Sundance]. Most of our screenings were sold out, so over a thousand people saw the film and they just seemed to fall in love with our characters. A lot of teachers came to the screenings and said afterwards that they were really inspired by what they saw – by the teaching and by the school.”
