Film Scored by Irish Composer wins at Delray Fest

17 Dec 2008 :
The romantic comedy feature film ‘Screw Cupid’, which was scored by Los Angeles based Irish composer Ciarán Hope, has won the Audience Award at the 2008 International Delray Beach Film Festival. This rounds up a busy year for Hope who has recently been assigned to score the signature music theme for the Solstice Arts Centre in Ireland.

‘Screw Cupid’ was chosen as the audience favorite out of 250 eligible films, ranging from independent pieces, shorts, documentaries, and animated films to movies focusing on "Xtreme" sports. The movie was also selected as one of only 10 films to be a part of the first ever MyFestival at the world renowned 2008 Seattle International Film Festival, presented by Indieflix.

Hope, who has composed music for Michael Mann’s ‘The Insider’, TV series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘It’s A Guy Thing’, has recently completed the signature music theme for the Solstice Arts Centre in Ireland. After winning the International Music Competition for the right to create the prestigious musical work, Hope enjoyed the challenge of penning the piece. “I am excited and honored to have been chosen for this Award,” said Ciarán. “It has been a lot of fun to write the commission and hopefully I’ve created a piece of magic that stands the tests of time...”. He added, “It will be a real blast getting to work with the musicians and premiere the piece at the Solstice Centre in Navan in the coming year.”

Hope was also recently selected to be a member of the Panel of Artists and Crafts People to service a major Public Art Programme from 2008-2010 in his home county, Co. Meath. Membership of the Panel of Artists will afford Ciarán the opportunity to take part in a wide range of commission opportunities. “I am incredibly humbled that I was selected to be a member of such an esteemed panel.” said Hope. He added, “To have a genuine opportunity to contribute in some way to the cultural evolution of my home county means the World to me.”

Hope is currently busy writing music for Walt Disney Imagineering and has set up a post production facility, Pangea Music, Inc.
