‘Fifth Street’, the directorial debut from David Roddham, has won the Best action Sequence in a Short Film Award at the 2008 AOF (Action on Film) Festival in L.A.
The 14 minute short stars Tim Dillard (City of Ember) and Roger Yuan (Bulletproof Monk), who also co wrote the film with Roddham. The film depicts underworld criminals and their dealings during a card game. DOP is Stephen Murphy (Bog Bodies, The Formorian).
‘Fifth Street’ is Roddham’s directorial debut having previously worked in special effects on a number of Irish productions including ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan’. A feature length trilogy of the film is now in development entitled ‘The Stolen City Chronicles’.
Having screened at the New York International Film and Video Fest in LA, the short has been requested for another screening in the New York Festival in September. The film was shot in Dublin and produced by Dave Leahy at Dublin’s Warrior Films, edited by Derek Holland and posted at Screen Scene and cameras supplied by Production Depot.
Roddham who resides in Ireland, is currently working in the UK with Ridley Scott on his new epic ‘Nottingham’ which will begin shooting in October.
The Action on Film Festival aims to not only showcase new features but also supports film makers in attracting the attention of international distributors and producers. Previous winners at the AOF include director Mark Mahon (Strength and Honour) who won Best Script Award in 2005. This year also saw ‘Strength and Honour’ actor Michael Madsen receiving an AOF legacy award
