TG4 has purchased the first two seasons of US sitcom ‘Samantha Who?’, created by Irish bestselling author and screenwriter Cecelia Ahern. The series is scheduled to air this September.
IFTA nominated Ahern, who wrote the romantic novel ‘P.S I Love You’, also produced six episodes of the comedy series. The sitcom stars Christina Applegate (Anchorman, The Sweetest Thing) who plays a woman who wakes up from a hit and run accident with amnesia, and is forced to rediscover her life.
The ABC produced show premiered in October 2007 and attracted 14.4 million viewers in America, making it the highest-rated new sitcom. It has also won the People’s Choice Award for Favourite New TV Comedy as well as Applegate receiving Golden Globe and Emmy award nominations this year for her performance. The show has been picked up by several other European television stations, including Channel 4.
‘Samantha Who?’ will be broadcast on TG4 at 9pm Thursdays, starting from September 11th, and will be repeated on Friday evenings. TG4’s acquisitions and output director Liz Ni Dhalaigh states the attraction of the show in Ireland as “the target audience is young and female so 9pm is a good slot.”
