The Centre Cultural Irlandais, Paris, will play host to the 1st Festival of Irish Women’s Film (1er Festival des Realisatrices de Cinema Irlandaises), on the 29th September.

The festival is organized in conjunction with Women in Film and Television (WFTV) Ireland and WFTV France, and follows the success of September 06’s festival of French women’s work in Dublin, building links between both communities.

The film programme includes Margon Harkin’s ‘Hush-a by Baby’, Kristen Sheridan’s ‘Disco Pigs’, Aisling Walsh’s ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ and documentary ‘Exile Files’, which follows the trade and migration between France and Ireland between 1600 and 1815. This film will be introduced by the director Geraldine Creed. Director Peter Mullan will also introduce his film ‘The Magdalene Sister’s. Writer/ director Jenny Roche will give a Masterclass entitled ‘Irish Women in the Picture’, exploring how women see and are seen in Irish film and television.

Women in Film and Television is an international network with 37 branches worldwide and over 10,000 members, with the aim of protecting and promoting the status, interests and achievements of women working at all levels of the film, television and digital media industries.

The European chapter of WFTV was launched in June 2004, to bring the European community of female film makers together, to strengthen and develop the European film industry as an entity and to encourage more co-productions.
