Call for applications open for Northern Ireland Screen's New Shorts Focus
07 Apr 2020 : Nathan Griffin
Northern Ireland Screen
Northern Ireland Screen has started accepting applications to its New Short Focus scheme.

New Shorts Focus is open to entry-level writers and writer/director applicants resident in Northern Ireland, particularly those from groups that are underrepresented within the film and television industry, including:

  • Females
  • Females 30+
  • Disabled applicants
  • Black and minority ethnic (BME)
  • Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender

Applicants must:

  • Be from an underrepresented group as indicated above.
  • Be a resident in Northern Ireland.
  • Supply an online link to a film you previously directed if you want to direct your short.

Six projects will be chosen to go through a development process which will be led by a script consultant. Up to three projects will be selected to move into production after the initial development period.

Based on three projects going into production, the final films should be deliverable on a budget of £11,500 including an in-kind contribution of £1,500. The in-kind contribution is supplied by the attached production company.

A Production company will be attached to each of the selected projects. That company will make the funding application. A production company is attached once the final projects are selected. Northern Ireland Screen can assist with the attachment of a production company if required.

The completed application form and supporting documentation must be received by Friday, 8th May.
