The Industrial Heritage Association of Ireland (IHAI) has awarded the Mary Mulvihill Media Award to the ‘Building Ireland’ production team.
The six-part documentary series features expert presenters in Engineering, Architecture and Geography exploring some of the finest examples of Ireland’s building and engineering heritage.
First screened last Autumn, the series was produced by Esras Films in association with Brian Gray for RTÉ, with funding from the Sound & Vision Fund of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
The IHAI Awards were presented on Tuesday, 21st February, at a function in ESB Head Office.
Dr Dermot O’ Dwyer, IHAI commented that: “These awards seek to give recognition to individuals and organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to promoting and safeguarding industrial heritage.”
In accepting the award on behalf of the production team, Series Producer Peter Kelly noted the enthusiastic contribution of the three expert presenters in helping to make the content accessible on television.
He also noted the important work the IHAI is doing to preserve and celebrate Ireland’s industrial heritage, and the expertise and commitment IHAI members bring to that work. He concluded, “the fact that this group in particular saw fit to recognise Building Ireland, makes the award all the more valuable to us.”
