‘New Realities’ Forum to run as part of Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival
2014-10-14 : Seán Brosnan
Where Irish filmmaking fits and how filmmakers can best get their work completed and delivered to as wide an audience as possible will be the subject of a one-day Film Forum as part of the Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival this year.

New Realities - The Guth Gafa International Film Forum, in association with Honeycomb-Creative Works, will be providing a unique platform for some of the major Irish and international players in filmmaking to share experiences, circulate knowledge and pool ideas.

An assembly of international film guests will descend on Virginia, County Cavan on Friday 31st October, to take part in the programme of hands-on workshops and case studies, on the subject of social impact, audience engagement and outreach strategies for your films.

Using some of the most successful international examples, the summit will explore how crowd-funding can help finance and distribute film at grassroots level and will look at social impact, audience engagement and outreach strategies for completed films.

From the US, guests include Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises Geoff Gilmore, Christie Marchese, CEO of social impact strategy company Picture Motion NY, Camden International Film Festival director, Ben Fowlie, and producer /director team Tyler Measom and Justin Weinstein, who raised nearly $250,000 on Kickstarter for their film, ‘An Honest Liar’.

From Europe, comes multi-award winning flmmaker, Matthias von Gunten (‘ThuleTuvalu’) and producer Lauren Simpson (‘A Dangerous Game’), who will give case studies of their two environmental films and discuss how best to get the message out on big issues through documentary cinema.

Also from Europe, filmmaker Maarten Schmidt (‘Ne Me Quitte Pas’) will join Christie Marchese on a session about promoting films at grassroots level, and building impact and social engagement strategies for your films.

A host of other international and Irish filmmaker guests will be participating at the day-long event, which is being held in celebrity chef, Richard Corrigan's new hotel in Virginia, Co. Cavan. Richard will prepare lunch for the delegates on the day, which runs from 9.30am to 5pm.

This unique event will conclude by looking at how filmmakers can successfully build on Ireland’s film profile both at home and abroad.

The forum kick starts the weekend-long international documentary film festival in Headfort House in Kells, Co Meath, during which many of the films discussed at the forum will be screened.

For registration, and full details of the summit, check out the Honeycomb Creative Works website which can be found at https://thehoneycomb.net/events/film-forum.

The New Realities- Guth Gafa International Film Forum is organised in association with Honeycomb – Creative Works, and with the kind support of The Irish Film Board / Bord Scannán na hÉireann, Northern Ireland Screen, Creative Europe and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
