At its annual producers information day, the Irish language Broadcaster announced that it is looking for submissions from the independent production sector for new multi-annual output deals.

The current multi-annual output deals will come to an end in 2021. As such, this week’s announcement comes as a commitment by TG4 to strengthen, support, and develop the audio-visual sector in Ireland. As the viewing landscape becomes increasingly fragmented, TG4 is recognised for its innovation, vision, creativity, and unique strength of storytelling.

A total of 12 multi-annual output deals are being sought for a period of four years. An additional two new multi-annual output deals are included in this week’s announcement. Each contract will be worth €1.8m or €450,000 per annum, an increase from €400,000 per annum of the current multi-output deals.

Applications are sought for the following genres: Factual for TG4’s core Audience, Factual National, Factual Entertainment, Traditional Music Entertainment, Music Entertainment, Lifestyle, Factual Entertainment, Factual for Under 35’s, and Entertainment for Children. The closing date for submissions is April 12th.

An additional multi-annual output deal was announced in 2020. This brings the total number of multi-annual output contracts to 13. TG4 has nine other output contracts with the production sector in different capacities including Sports Production, as well as services contracts for revoicing and subtitling.

TG4 also announced a commissioning round this week for Spring 2021. This commissioning round offers an opportunity for producers who do not intend to apply for multi-annual output deals. Submissions are sought for one-off programmes or series in Entertainment or Factual for TG4’s core audience, submissions of ideas for audience under 35, Factual – National Audience, Factual Entertainment – National Audience, Traditional Music Entertainment, Music Entertainment, and Entertainment for Children. The closing date for submissions is May 17th.

TG4 investment in multi-annual output deals equates to €23.2m into the Independent Production Sector.

“As a publisher broadcaster, partnership with the Independent Production sector is at the core of TG4’s remit,” TG4 Director General, Alan Esslemont told attendees at the annual information session for producers. “The past year was unprecedented and hard for everyone. The creativity and ambition of TG4’s programme offering comes from the Independent producers who create content for the channel.”

“We received an increase in funding of €3.5m in 2020, which will be invested directly into the production sector. We encourage producers to think about and understand TG4’s audience, particularly for audiences under 35, and to use these Commissioning rounds as an opportunity to pitch new creative, audience-focused ideas.”
