The Sci-Fi thriller was scheduled to release in Irish and UK cinemas on April 24th, but due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, plans have proactively been shifted to an online release.
While in the US, North American distributor Gunpowder & Sky will live-stream the US premiere this Thursday, April 9th at 8pm ET ahead of the films North American digital release on April 10th. Viewers can tune in to the live-stream for $4.99 via seafever.watchdust.com.
“Like everyone else, we are adjusting to life’s new challenges on a daily basis and feel Sea Fever is more relevant than ever. We are psyched to host the first-ever live experience of a film screening, and can’t wait to share it with audiences!” said Janet Brown, Gunpowder & Sky’s EVP of Acquisitions and Global Distribution, when speaking about the adjustments to the US release.
Reminiscent of cult classics The Thing and The Abyss,Sea Fever stars Hermione Corfield (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Connie Nielsen (Wonder Woman), Dougray Scott (Hitman) and Jack Hickey (Game of Thrones). Ardalan Esmaili, Olwen Fouéré, and newcomer Elie Bouakaze also feature.
For marine biology student Siobhan (Corfield), it was supposed to be a research excursion with a trawler crew fishing the West Irish seas, but when they hit an unseen object and become marooned, a mysterious parasite infects their water supply. Soon the oozing force infiltrates the entire vessel and turns Siobhan’s journey into a claustrophobic fight for survival. Can they stop the mysterious water-borne parasite from spreading before it’s too late?
The film had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September where it was met with a strong reception, and more recently made its Irish premiere at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival.
Sea Fever was produced by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell of Dublin-based Fantastic Films with Belgium’s Frakas Productions and Sweden’s Bright Pictures. Irish cinematographer Ruairí O’Brien also features as Director of Photography.
Wildcard Distribution will release Sea Fever in Irish cinemas on Friday 24th April.
