Participants and Host Studios Announced for VFX and Animation Graduate Traineeship

The day-long symposium launches the 2016-17 training programme next Saturday October 22nd, coupled with informative talks on the latest innovations in VFX, animation, games and VR.

The programme is designed to develop industry-focused skills in a workplace setting to further these sectors, which employs over 1,000 in Ireland in animation alone.

It is supported by award-winning studios such as Brown Bag Films, Cartoon Saloon, Boulder Media, and Screen Scene VFX among others. The programme includes on-the-job training and mentoring as well as additional specialist training delivered through Animation Skillnet and Screen Training Ireland.

Brown Bag Films (Trainee: Emma Williamson); Cartoon Saloon (Trainees: Graeme Lee and Jose Manuel Navarro); Boulder Media (Trainees: Terence McManus and Marc Hendry); Egg VFX (Trainee: Paris Taylor-Jones); Igloo Animations (Trainee: Julie Rush); JAM Media (Trainees: Des Soon, Grainne Hegarty and Jessica Patterson); Kavaleer (Trainee: Dylan Kerslake); Kite Entertainment (Trainee: Luke Foley); Piranha Bar (Trainee: Susan Curry); Salty Dog Pictures (Trainees: Oscar Nickelsen and Viktoria Katona); Monster Entertainment (Trainee: Lea Farrell); Screen Scene VFX (Trainee: Keith Clinton); and Vstream (Trainee: Stephen Boland).

  • Simon Kay, Motion Capture Supervisor, Double Negative (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Antman)
  • Mary Pike, 3D Modeller and Modelmaker, The Workhouse (Alice Through the Looking Glass, Elysium)
  • Wouter Tulp, Character Designer (The Seventh Dwarf)

These sessions will be followed by a special Dublin screening of ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ hosted by The Visual Effects Society London. This screening is followed by a Q&A with VFX Supervisor Frazer Churchill (Children of Men). This is supported by Eurotek Ireland and Chaos Group. The VFX and Animation Symposium is an initative of Screen Training Ireland and Animation Skillnet, and supported by the Irish Film Board, the Industrial Development Authority, and Enterprise Ireland.
