Five Minutes with Egg Post Production

Egg worked on the second series of Damo & Ivor in 2014
In the midst of the holiday season and looking back on the year gone by, IFTN spoke to Gary Shortall of Egg Post Production who took us through a busy 2014 that included post production work on the second series of ‘Damo and Ivor’ as well as Sky One’s ‘50 Ways to Kill your Mammy’.

IFTN: What have been the key shows/films/docs/dramas that you worked on in 2014?

Our 2014 television work includes ‘Damo and Ivor Series 2 (Parallel Films and Skanger Records, Directed by Rob and Ronan Burke), ‘50 Ways to Kill your Mammy’ (produced by Brown Bread Films and Burning Bright Productions, directed by Barry Egan), ‘Roy’ series 3 and 4 (Jam Media for CBBC), ‘Moone Boy’ series 3 (Produced for Sky 1 by Grand Pictures, Baby Cow Productions, Hot Cod Productions and Sprout Pictures), ‘The Speech’ Series 2 (Tyrone Productions), ‘Zara World’ (Fubar Films), ‘Our Farm’ (GMarsh TV Productions), Joseph Calleja Concert for SKY Arts, ‘The Family Project’ Series 2 (Animo Televison), ‘Living the Wildlife’ Series 6 (GMarch TV Productions) and ‘The Gene That Could Ruin My Life’ (Animo).

‘Features and documentaries we have worked on over 2014 are ‘The Canal’ (Park Films, directed by Ivan Kavanagh) which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, ‘Legend of Longwood’ (Grand Pictures, Directed by Lisa Mulcahy) which was Prize winner at the Giffoni Film Festival, ‘Ghosthunters – On Icy Trails’ ( Warner Brothers Germany, Ripple World Pictures), ‘Blood Rising’ (Bang Bang Teo), ‘Blood Fruit’ (Ferndale Films, directed by Sinead O’Brien) Winner of Best Documentary 2014 at the Galway Film Fleadh, ‘Simshar’ (A film by Rebecca Cremona) which was long listed for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award, ‘Yximalloo’ (A film by Tadgh O’Sullivan and Fergal Ward), and ‘The Stranger’ (a film by David Rane).’

What have been the highlights of 2014 for your company?

‘Completing the massive animation and VFX project ‘Ghosthunters’ for Ripple World Pictures/Luckybird/Warner Brothers, involvement in Darklight Festival and Digital Biscuit, founding the VFX Association Ireland (VFXAI) and it was also the 10th anniversary of Egg Post Production in 2014.’

What’s in store for the first quarter of 2015?

‘We have a busy year ahead but most projects are still confidential but we are sponsoring When East Meets West event at Trieste Film Festival in January – Egg Digital Cinema Award, we have completed Sound Post for Story Films feature ‘Tiger Raid’ in February and we also will start post on the second series of 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy’ in February.’
